Corporate Tax Specialist - Senior (high level individual contributor)
Salary range - depends on experience and career level + excellent benefits
Northwest Houston area location (onsite)
Successful, long-standing Houston-based corporation is seeking an experienced Corporate Tax Specialist to take ownership of its tax function. This is a high-impact role within Corporate Tax, offering the opportunity to work across multiple tax jurisdictions and play a key part in ensuring compliance and accuracy.
This position offers the chance to own a critical function, work with modern tax tools, and contribute directly to the company’s success. It is ideal for a high level individual contributor who enjoys both technical accuracy and process ownership. The role will research the particular federal and state tax matters, help determine obligations, nexus and also look at defense items for resolution. The outside tax firms prepare the returns, 1120's, 1065's and K1's, as well as handling international compliance. The sales and use tax compliance is done in-house using Avalara.
The role is hybrid, with a 9 hour a day schedule as it is a 9/80 with Monday and Friday work from home and Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday in office 9 hours.
Responsibilities:
In this role, you will perform:

Overseeing and communicating with outside CPA firms for the federal and international compliance, keeping abreast or overall regulatory changes and adhering to the strict tax calendar.

Will do hands on multi-state sales tax compliance across various states, headquartered in Texas, with sales tax nexus in 6+ states including Louisiana, which has some unique tax regulations.

Willanaging sales tax filings, registrations and certifications in applicable state and local tax authorities, jurisdictions and districts (states, cities, counties and parishes)

Maintaining accurate and organized data entry across state systems and internal platforms

Stay abreast of tax laws, rules and regulations according to the compliance requirements of each location and entity

Meet all deadlines and keep current calendars corresponding to each entity and location, according to the state and local tax laws and regulations

Utilize Avalara to:
- Configure tax settings

Manage and upload tax data

Ensure timely, accurate, and complete filings
Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in accounting required

Requires at least 7+ years of corporate tax experience

Experience in a public accounting tax (Federal compliance and State, Sales & Use tax), preferred

CPA preferred
